These resources are part of the Containers for Change Western Australia suite of resources, created with Western Australia’s Containers for Change.

This Year 6 unit, We Can Make Change, is designed to

  • explore the social and economic impacts of the Containers for Change Western Australia initiative
  • build students’ understanding of the recycling processes of beverage containers
  • apply and strengthen empathy by developing creative narratives that build understanding of the lifecycle of resources and the sustainability impacts of our decisions
  • develop vital maths skills in converting between common metric units of measurement
  • encourage young people to make more informed purchasing decisions and build an understanding of the decision-making process
  • inspire young people to connect with and have a positive impact on their local communities by creating a behaviour change video that promotes the social, economic and environmental benefits of participating in Containers for Change
  • explore the benefits the initiative can provide to social organisations and create fundraising proposals to share with local community groups
  • support young people to apply their understandings to help their communities.
