THE OASIS - Social Action in Your Community
THE OASIS HPE unit is a resource for years 9 & 10 that incorporates clips from the film THE OASIS, real-world videos, and other stimuli to teach health and physical education. Students participate in movement, group work, and reflection, and create artefacts for assessment. The unit ends with a social action project where students address a local health and wellbeing issue. Lessons cover topics like youth homelessness, stereotypes, couch surfing, and personal circumstances. Students empathize with characters and create Facebook profiles to understand the emotional toll of homelessness.
